Sioux Falls, SD – On October 28th, 2023, the Knights of Columbus organized a group to participate in the city-wide event called “Rake The Town” to help residents on the east side of Sioux Falls with their fall yard cleanup. Under the leadership of Chairman Mike Colby, the event brought together a group of Knights who worked to beautify yards in the community.
The Knights brought their own yard rakes, while other necessary materials were provided. Additionally, some Knights brought extra rakes, ensuring that no one was left without a tool to contribute.
In the week leading up to the event, Chairman Colby received yard assignments from the center and personally contacted each homeowner to schedule a time for the Knights to rake their lawns. He then sent out emails to the volunteers, providing addresses, times, and requesting confirmation of attendance. Additionally, he visited each home before the event to assess the workload and provide the volunteers with essential information.
The event itself ran smoothly, with all participating Knights showing up to help. Even those running slightly late were accommodated, thanks to the surplus of manpower. Chairman Colby’s sons also joined in, further bolstering the team. The event was open to family members and friends of the Knights, fostering a sense of community involvement.
Through effective teamwork, all yards were raked and cleaned within a couple of hours. The unexpected contributions of leaf blowers greatly enhanced the final results, leaving the yards looking immaculate. The event was deemed a great success by Chairman Colby, who expressed interest in organizing it again next year based on the feedback received from the participating Knights.
The Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to make “Rake The Town” a triumph. Their commitment to serving the community is truly commendable.
