Holy Spirit Knights Serve at Special Olympics Track and Field Competition

The Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus were honored to serve lunch to over 450+ participants, coaches, support staff and volunteers at the Special Olympics South Dakota South East Regional Track and Field competition on April 26, 2024 in Brandon Valley, SD. This event, held annually, celebrates the spirit and dedication of athletes competing in various track and field disciplines.

The Knights assisted in serving a nourishing lunch that included donated Arby’s roast beef sandwiches, assorted toppings, granola bars, cheese sticks, and beverages such as water and orange juice. Their commitment to community service was evident as they worked tirelessly to ensure all participants were well-fed and could perform at their best.

Athletes at the event showcased their talents in relays, sprints, long jumps, long-distance runs, shot put, and ball throws among other activities. The fervor and determination of the participants made for an electrifying atmosphere, with each athlete striving for excellence and a chance to advance to the state competition in May.

The Special Olympics of South Dakota, whose mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, emphasizes the empowerment of individuals, fostering a sense of achievement and inclusion. Mr. Darryl Nordquist, President & CEO of Special Olympics South Dakota, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the continuous support provided by the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus.

We extend our gratitude to the South Dakota Special Olympics for allowing the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus the opportunity to serve at this event. It was a privilege to stand alongside these incredible athletes and to support an organization that champions such a noble cause.
